What is Charcoal Underwear?

Have you ever wondered if there could be a solution to smelly gas? If so, you probably googled this question and found something about activated carbon or activated charcoal. But what is activated carbon or activated charcoal? And why would it be in underwear?

What is activated charcoal?

Activated charcoal or activated carbon (activated carbon and activated charcoal are synonyms) is an organic product that is formed by subjecting wood, bamboo, or coconut fibers to high heat and combustion without enough oxygen to allow it to burn up completely. The resulting charcoal forms with deep crevices and porosity that makes it great for filtration.

It is for this reason that activated charcoal is often woven into cloths or fabrics to be used for filtration. Its porosity makes it incredibly effective at trapping larger and often harmful particles that pass through it.

What is activated charcoal used for?

One use of activated carbon in the early twentieth century was in gas masks to protect soldiers from chemical weapons. I think that this proves its effectiveness.

However, today one of the most common uses of activated carbon is in HVAC systems to filter and treat the air. As mentioned previously, the porosity helps trap large and harmful products in the air to prevent us from breathing them.

So, Why would you add activated charcoal to underwear?

Simply put: Because it is the perfect solution to smelly gas. Innovative companies, such as tootles, have created and patented lab tested odor filtering technology using activated carbon to filter smelly gas.

Tootles takes organic charcoal, which is then spun into their bamboo cotton fabric; and then the activated carbon works in tootles underwear to immediately and naturally purify the air.

The activated charcoal in tootles underwear is able to successfully trap large particles such as hydrogen sulfide (which is what causes your gas to smell like rotten eggs) into its many pores. The result is gas that does not smell.

Too good to be true?

Could something like “fart-filtering underwear” really work? Because of tootles, the answer is yes. It all started when founder and physician, Dr. White, realized that so many of his patients were struggling with smelly gas and wanted a non-invasive solution to their challenges. So he decided to lab test and patent underwear that could help his patients; then tootles was born!

If you still don’t believe in the fart filtering miracle that is saving first dates and board room presentations across the nation, then watch some of our lab tests below:
