tootles™ is gas-absorbing underwear made from activated carbon fiber that helps control unwanted odors. For many, tootles is a miracle product that helps them control their unwanted gas and odors so that it doesn’t control them.
The secret behind tootles™’ odor filtering technology is a timeless technique using activated carbon. Spun into our bamboo cotton fabric, the activated carbon works in tootles underwear to immediately and naturally purify the air. But like most good things in life, your tootles won’t last forever — but they can last a long time if cared for properly!
So how do you care for your tootles properly?
In this blog, we will go over a few simple steps that we refer to as our ‘tootles best practices”. If followed correctly, these best practices will help keep your tootles underwear filtering out all unwanted odors for as long as possible.
tootles best practice #1: Don’t Use Fabric Softener
Our first tootles best practice is that you do not use fabric softener when washing your tootles.
So you are probably asking — why not?
Well, simply put because science says so!
Fabric softeners are composed of positively charged ions that coat the surface of the clothing and attach to the negative ends of fibers, forcing the fibers to stand up off the garment to provide a softer feel. However, with tootles, these ions can block and clog our odor filtering technology.
By coating the entire piece of clothing, detergent would remain even after the wash is done. As we explained, this can subsequently harm the tootles activated carbon cloth, which is the magic behind filtering out the hydrogen sulfide in your flatus (i.e. unwanted odors). Fabric softeners can essentially block and clog the activated carbon cloth, rendering it less effective.
That is why we recommend steering clear of fabric softeners and following our washing instructions.
tootles best practice #2: Use Soda Wash Detergent
Our second tootles best practice, is that we highly recommend using the best soda wash detergent when washing tootles.
As we detailed in our last best practice, using liquid detergent and fabric softeners can actually damage your tootles underwear and render them less effective — which is a tragedy!
To avoid this, we recommend using crystal soda wash detergent. If you ordered a pair of tootles already, this is what we gave you a sample of. Using this soda wash detergent is what will best keep your tootles clean and effective.
If you don’t have any soda wash detergent, your next best option is baking soda. However, we (again) highly recommend that you use crystal soda wash detergent. This will keep your tootles working as effectively as possible and for as long as possible.

tootles best practice #3: Hand Wash in Cold Water
Our third and final tootles practice is another simple piece of advice: Hand wash your tootles in cold water.
We highly recommend that you hand wash your tootles underwear so that it lasts as long as possible. Often, clothes in washing and drying machines can become worn out faster than if they were hand washed. To keep your tootles in the best condition it is best to hand wash them in cold water.
This best practice can be convenient if you are using soda wash crystal detergent for just your tootles. This allows you to not have to put in another load of laundry. Instead, you can just quickly hand wash your tootles.
